Top 5 Reasons Why You Must Hire a Wedding Cinematographer| Pennsylvania Wedding Cinematographer

Having a wedding film is usually considered a luxury and isn’t placed high on the list of wedding vendors that are priority. Why is that? Maybe it’s because couples aren’t adding it into their wedding budget from the very beginning, or maybe they think that since they already hired a photographer, they have no use for video. We want to know your thoughts! Please feel free to leave them in the comments below.

We are so not the pushy kind who pressures our clients into booking a service that they don’t want or that they don’t see as a crucial part of their wedding day… BUT! We wanted to share with you the top 5 reasons why we think you MUST hire a wedding cinematographer. Here they are:

#1. RE-LIVING YOUR WEDDING DAY OVER & OVER AGAIN!
Sure, having pretty photos to hang up on your walls or to share with your families and friends is a great way to look back on your day, but when you get to WATCH it over and over again, there truly is no greater way to re-live it! We all know that we wish we could go back to our wedding day and have the same feelings we felt when we saw our soon-to-be-spouse for the first time and all those awesome dance moves Grandma showed off during the reception.

#2. A KEEPSAKE FOR YOUR FUTURE CHILDREN & GRANDCHILDREN!
Having a recording of your wedding day and being able to share that with your future children and even grandchildren, will be so amazing for them! They’ll be able to see how your love story began.

#3. YOU WON’T SEE OR HEAR EVERYTHING THAT A VIDEO CAN CAPTURE!
There are certain parts of your wedding day that you’ll have to miss, instances like when your flower girl walks down the aisle, or how your guests react to YOU walking down the aisle… video will capture everything so that you WILL be able to see and hear all those sweet moments.

#4. CAPTURING FRIENDS & FAMILY MEMBERS IN THAT STAGE OF LIFE!
When you invite your aunts, uncles, cousins, babies, and grandparents, it will be so special to look back on the moments shared with them and to see how much they’ve changed throughout the years.

#5. NO REGRETS!
Don’t let it get to the days, months, or years after your wedding, regretting your decision NOT to hire a wedding cinematographer! Talk to TKP couples or your friends who made the choice to include a cinematographer in their budget.

A video is able to capture the power of all the emotions felt on a wedding day. They make you laugh and cry, and when it’s over, it leaves you wanting to see MORE. Please consider including a cinematographer in your wedding budget, even if it’s not us! We really think you’ll be so happy with your decision if you choose to have a video.

If you would like more details on our video collections, please get in touch with us! We’d love to hear more about your love story, and to see if we’re a good fit for each other. You can also view more videos here.

Hugs and Happy Planning,

7 Reasons You Need a Day Of Coordinator

What is a Day Of Wedding Coordinator? Someone that aims for you and your new husband to have the BEST. DAY. EVER. She ensures that your day is stress-free and goes exactly as planned. She’ll work with your entire wedding vendor team, create a wedding day timeline to stay on task, and if any issues arise, she’ll be there to solve the problem!

My friend, Brittani Potts with One Wall Weddings, shares her top 7 reasons why you absolutely NEED to hire a Day Of Coordinator for your wedding:

  1. So you can control all aspects of your wedding without having stress on the day of.
  2. To have your plans organized without paying for a full-time wedding planner.
  3. To ensure your plans are carried out smoothly.
  4. To be the “go-to” person at your wedding.
  5. To discreetly handle any problems that may arise.
  6. To make the awkward decisions you don’t want to.
  7. So you can enjoy your own wedding day.

Even if your venue has a coordinator on staff, you really should think about having your own personal Day Of Coordinator. All of your needs will be met and your coordinator will be focused solely on YOU. She will be present throughout your entire wedding, which is not always the case for the venue’s appointed coordinator.

Get in touch with Brittani to hear more about her profession, the services she offers (she is also a super talented designer and creates amazing wedding invitations, logos, and more!), and your potential investment. Take it from someone who has worked with several coordinators at past weddings; they are such a blessing and they make the day go by smoothly for everyone involved. You can also find Brittani on Facebook and The Knot. Read what past brides are saying about her and contact her today!

5 Questions to Ask a Wedding Photographer

You’re engaged to the love of your life (CONGRATS!), and now the wedding planning begins! This is the day you’ve been dreaming of your whole life, so you want everything to be perfect. Wedding planning should be enjoyable for the most part, but we know that’s not always the case. Hiring a team of professional wedding vendors can be an extreme task, but we’re here to make that a little less overwhelming and more fun for you.

Here are 5 questions that you should be prepared to ask a wedding photographer that you’re interested in working with.

#1. Do you have testimonials given by past brides that I can read? May I contact them?
You want to know what a photographic experience is like with the photographer you’re interested in hiring and working with for both your engagement session and wedding day. Most photographers have testimonials displayed right on their websites, or on their profiles with The Knot or WeddingWire. You want to hear all about a bride and groom’s connection to the photographer, how they performed, what their work is like, if they meet deadlines, etc. Even ask the photographer for names and contact info. of brides they’ve worked with so that you can speak to them over the phone.

#2. How many weddings do you shoot per month? How many total weddings have you shot all together?
You would like to hire a wedding photographer that responds to your emails and questions right away and who gives you the attention you deserve. If a wedding photographer is shooting practically every weekend of the year, that’s one busy schedule with tons of brides who are seeking their attention, too! Some photographers limit the amount of weddings they take on each year so that they are able to answer questions, help with the wedding day timeline, give advice, and so on. You also want to consider the number of weddings they shoot each month as that affects when your images will be delivered to you. Ask the wedding photographer how many weddings they have under their belt. Do you want a seasoned photographer who has shot for years and has tons of experience, or do you want a new photographer just getting started in the wedding industry, but has a heart of gold and a passion for the business? There are certainly pros and cons to both, and more often than not, budget plays a role in this decision. Think about this super important investment when talking with the photographer.

#3. May I see a full wedding gallery?
Social media shares the wedding day highlights. Blog posts are super helpful, but they do not show every single image that a wedding photographer delivers to their couple. Ask to see an entire wedding gallery. This will show you the getting ready shots, the bridal party, first look, family formals, the ceremony, and the reception. What do their photos look like when they shoot mid-day in full sun? If you’re having an indoor reception, you’ll want to see what their experience is in working with off-camera lighting or flash. Think about the parts of a wedding day that you want captured the most, look at their work, and make sure you love what you see!

#4. Do you have back-up equipment?
Ask the wedding photographer for a list of their equipment, and make sure they have more than one camera and a variety of lenses to suit any scenario.

#5. Have you ever worked at my wedding venue/site before?
It’s important for the wedding photographer that you’re working with to be familiar with your wedding location. They’ll know right where the perfect spots are for portraits, will know the rules of the venue, and will have already worked with the venue staff. If they haven’t worked at your wedding location before, that’s okay! Ask them if they’d be willing to take a trip to your venue a month before your wedding day, or see if they can arrive an hour early the day of your wedding.

Not only do you deserve beautiful images, you also deserve an amazing photographic experience. Be sure to do your homework and think of other questions to ask in addition to these five.

Photography is a huge part of your wedding day. You leave your reception with your spouse and your pictures… that’s it! Ask these five questions and you’ll be sure to find a great wedding photographer who delivers exactly what you want.

Things to Consider when Searching for the Perfect Wedding Photographer | Pennsylvania Wedding Photographer

Most brides (and grooms) go into planning their wedding not knowing much about weddings, or where to actually start in the planning process, and that’s okay! This is where my role as a wedding photographer and friend comes into play.

Let’s start with cost. The average price for a professional wedding photographer with years of experience is around $3,500. This will vary depending on the area you’re searching in, of course. My pricing for an 8 hour wedding day starts at $2,350 and includes high-resolution images, an online gallery, and print release. I allow my clients to build their perfect wedding photography collection by adding on services such as an engagement session, additional hours of coverage, albums, and a second photographer. The average price my couples end up paying is around $3,250. This is after they’ve added onto the 8 hour starting collection.

Next, let’s talk about quality. High-quality imagery is so important. Girls, this is your WEDDING DAY! Please, please, please make sure you check the quality of the photographer’s work. Most photographers will have a website where you can view their portfolio online before you even decide to meet with them. When I hold my consultations with couples, I always have an album and prints with me, and I pull up images on my phone or my laptop so that they can clearly see the detail and quality in each image. Ask the photographer you’re meeting with for testimonials given by past brides and grooms. (You can view testimonials given by my wedding clients here.) It’s crucial to pay more attention to the quality and not the price tag.

So, what all does a wedding photographer do? Please remember that your photographer is not just taking pictures of you for 8 hours on your wedding day. We also have to go through the 1,000+ photos taken, edit the photos, design the album, order prints or other special products, answer emails and phone calls, and carry out all of the other administrative duties that owning a business entails. (I love every minute of what I do, and I’m so blessed that God gave me this talent to serve others in this very special way!) It’s easy for someone to think that a photographer makes $3,500 for a day’s work, but that’s just not the case, my friend. There is work being done before and after the wedding as well.

Save yourself from the heartbreak of booking an inexperienced photographer for your wedding day. Yes, all of us photographers start somewhere, but I believe that we should be starting out by photographing smaller sessions like portraits, and second shooting for other wedding photographers before booking a wedding of our own.

The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. I want to help you make the best decision possible so that you have no regrets about your wedding day. Let’s meet over coffee (or tea in my case) & donuts! I’d love to hear all about your love story and what you envision your dream wedding to be like. Contact me to set up your complimentary consultation today. I can’t wait to hear from you! ♥

Vendors I Love! | Tracey Krick Photography

You’re engaged! CONGRATULATIONS! This is such an exciting time in your lives and should be celebrated with family and friends! Let the planning begin!

I know most couples tend to get overwhelmed or stressed out when planning their wedding. Trust me, I’ve been there! My very own wedding was (almost) 9 years ago, and I can still remember the times where I struggled and felt that I needed to spend every last penny on something wedding-related. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of moments that were enjoyable (i.e. cake tasting and picking out my dress were my favorites!) and very much worth spending every penny on.

The number of decisions you need to make can almost feel endless, and that is why I’m here to help! I’ve compiled a list of my very favorite vendors that I’ve worked with at past weddings. It’s my hope that this post will save you time (and possibly heart-ache) while you’re in the beginning stages of planning your dream wedding. I’ll even mention wedding venues that I absolutely love! Venues are the first stop for brides & grooms. All of your other vendors follow behind. I will say this, though; it’s extremely important that you find a photographer that you connect with and adore right away. I book 1-2 years in advance, and lately I’ve had to tell a lot of couples that I’m already booked. It’s good for me, but it makes me feel bad to tell someone that I’m not available. With that said, don’t wait to hire your wedding photographer!

Beginning with the Details | Tracey Krick Photography

The whole day begins with DETAILS! This is one of my favorite parts of the wedding day because it allows me to prepare and get really creative! It warms me up for the rest of the day. I photograph a bride’s details in a way that matches and showcases the style of the entire wedding day. So in some ways the details set the stage for the look of the whole wedding and I love being able to style and shoot everything from the decor, to the jewelry,
to Grandma’s handkerchief!

Here’s a list of the most common details I shoot. I ask brides to gather any details they have before I arrive so that I can walk in, say hello, give you lots of hugs and then begin with all the goodies! (And, please tell your mom that I promise to take GREAT care of the dress!)

  • Dress
  • Veil / Hair Pieces
  • Rings (All three)
  • Shoes
  • Bouquets & Bout (Ask your florist for extra blooms so that I can use them during styling!)
  • Jewelry
  • Perfume
  • Invitation Suite (This also includes your save-the-date, envelopes, etc.)
  • Heirloom Pieces
  • Garter
  • Borrowed & BlueFry Wedding-5.jpgFry Wedding-3.jpg

Here’s a list just for your groom. Just like I ask brides to have all the details ready for me, I will ask the same of grooms so that my second shooter can start right away with his details.

  • Suit/Tux
  • Tie/Bow-tie
  • Watch
  • Cologne
  • Shoes
  • Cuff Links
  • Belt
  • Matching Groomsmen SocksMoll Wedding-53.jpgWalter Wedding-280.jpg

Having all of these key elements in advance saves lots of time and ensures nothing is forgotten about. It makes my job easier and allows me to create the perfect series of detail shots!

Every little detail counts. Happy Planning!

5 More Tips for Ensuring Beautiful Photos on Your Wedding Day | Tracey Krick Photography

Last year around this time I blogged about some helpful tips to ensure beautiful photos on your wedding day. As wedding season soon approaches, and wedding plans are almost fully accomplished for some brides, I wanted to share some more helpful tips on ensuring BEAUTIFUL photos on your wedding day. These are just a few tips that I include in my correspondence to TKP brides two months prior to their wedding day. This information will help any bride no matter what stage of planning they are in.

Enjoy! 🙂

Tip #1: Clean Your Ring
That pretty ring of yours deserves to shine it’s brightest! Cleaning your ring just before your wedding day will make a world of difference in your photos, I promise. Check with your jeweler to see which method of cleaning is safest for your diamond, and enjoy that SPARKLE! Kornhaus Wedding-19.jpg

Tip #2: Invest in a Pretty Hanger
Just like your ring deserves to shine it’s brightest, your beautiful wedding gown deserves to be displayed and hung on a pretty hanger! It can either be simple in design or be made out of wood and have your name created out of wire underneath the structural part of the hanger. If you can, spend that extra money and buy pretty hangers for your bridesmaids, too. The photos will make it worth the investment.Johnson Wedding-21.jpg

Tip #3: Book a Manicure
Who honestly doesn’t enjoy getting pampered? One way to relax before your wedding day is to book a manicure. You’ll leave the nail salon feeling so much better and ready for what’s to come. Plus, your nails will look great! Gardner Wedding-2.jpg

Tip #4: Add Lush Greens and Florals to your Centerpieces
Nowadays there are so many options for your table centerpieces; it’s almost overwhelming. Adding lush greenery and florals that go along with your color scheme will make the setting look so dreamy and romantic.Nalewak Wedding-49.jpg

Tip #5: Break in your Wedding Shoes
It’s so important to break in new shoes to help ease the discomfort that a new pair of shoes can cause! Spend some time walking around in your wedding shoes (on a clean surface, of course). You’ll be surprised at what this can do! After all, a comfortable bride is a photogenic bride. Gunderman Wedding-21.jpg

Wedding Day Timeline | Helpful Tips from Tracey Krick Photography

As all of my brides prepare for their wedding day, I thought I’d share a few helpful tips on creating a timeline for photography. Planning the perfect timeline helps to relieve stress before and during your special day, and allows lots of time for beautiful photos! The timelines below are examples that you may follow, and if you have any questions on how to create a timeline for your wedding, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’m here as a guide, a friend, and a professional!

Please feel free to share this with others who may be planning a wedding of their own.

Timeline with a First Look and 8 hours of coverage

1:00 PM: Photographers arrive at venue or place you’re getting ready (3 hours prior to the ceremony)

1:00-2:00: Bridal shots, Details + Groom – Shoot final touches of getting ready, bride’s details (dress, jewelry, flowers, etc.) bride putting on dress, and groom’s final touches (shoes, tie, watch, etc.)

2:00-2:45: First Look + Bride and Groom Portraits

2:45-3:45: Bridal Party + Immediate Family Photos – Can be taken at this time. We feel that it’s much more convenient to get these photos out of the way so that EVERYONE can enjoy themselves during cocktail hour and head to the reception to party!

3:45: Relax – Breathe, and take a few moments for yourself; you’re about to tie the knot!

4:00-4:30: Ceremony

4:30-5:30: Cocktail Hour – Since we took all of your photos before your ceremony, you can now relax and enjoy cocktail hour with your guests! During this time we will shoot candids and all the little details you worked so hard on in your reception area.

5:30-10:30: Reception – Typically we’ll grab you and your new hubby for a few romantic shots during sunset!

Photographers depart at 9:00 PM

Timeline without a First Look and 8 hours of coverage  (All one location weddings or within close proximity ceremony/reception areas where the reception immediately follows the ceremony)

2:00 PM: Photographers arrive at venue or place you’re getting ready

2:00-3:00: Bridal shots, Details + Groom – Shoot final touches of getting ready, bride’s details (dress, jewelry, flowers, etc.) bride putting on dress, and groom’s final touches (shoes, tie, watch, etc.)

3:00-3:45: Brandon shoots Groomsmen Portraits and Groom’s Portraits; Tracey shoots Bridesmaid Photos and Bridal Portraits

3:45: Relax – Breathe, and take a few moments for yourself; you’re about to tie the knot!

4:00-4:30: Ceremony

4:30-5:30: Cocktail Hour – During cocktail hour, we would shoot the entire Bridal Party (15 minutes), Family Portraits (15 minutes) and Bride + Groom Portraits (30 minutes)

5:30-10:30: Reception – Typically we’ll grab you and your new hubby for a few romantic shots during sunset! Also, during the reception we will photograph any larger family group photos + special request photos.

Photographers depart at 10:00 PM

Note: This timeline only works if your ceremony ends before dark so we still have light to shoot during cocktail hour.

Timeline with a Receiving Line and 8 hours of coverage

1:00 PM: Photographers arrive at venue or place you’re getting ready

1:00-2:00: Bridal shots, Details + Groom – Shoot final touches of getting ready, bride’s details (dress, jewelry, flowers, etc.) bride putting on dress, and groom’s final touches

2:00-2:45: While Brandon shoots Groomsmen Portraits and Groom’s Portraits Tracey shoots Bridesmaid Photos and Bridal Portraits

2:45: Relax – Breathe, and take a few moments for yourself; you’re about to tie the knot!

3:00-3:30: Ceremony

3:30-4:00: Receiving Line (To keep this to a half an hour or less, it’s best to have just the Bride and Groom and Parents, rather than having the entire Bridal Party for the line-up.)

4:00-5:00: Cocktail Hour – During this time, we would shoot the entire Bridal Party (15 minutes), Family Portraits (15 minutes) and Bride + Groom Portraits (30 minutes)

5:00-10:00: Reception – Typically we’ll grab you and your new hubby for a few romantic shots during sunset! Also, during the reception we will photograph any larger family group photos + special request photos.

Photographers depart at 9:00 PM

Information on the First Look

“Doing a first look will take “something” away from our ceremony.” “I don’t want him to see me until I walk down the aisle.”

It probably depends on who you ask, but everyone we have asked has said that doing a First Look did not take anything away from the ceremony at all. It’s quite a different experience to share with one another, and by different, we mean AWESOME. ROMANTIC. SPECIAL.

Most couples spend the night away from each other before the wedding. You’re anxious for the first moment that you see each other. Why not have a First Look?

It is totally acceptable if you prefer to wait. We aren’t pushing First Looks as the best and only way to plan your wedding day photography timeline (although doing a First Look does give you a lot more flexibility in your timeline). It’s common for couples to say that they want to do a first look, but they think that it will take something away from the ceremony. It absolutely does not. If you want to do a First Look, then do one. If you don’t, then don’t. This is your wedding, so do what you want to do!

In addition to the above wedding day timelines, here is a rough guide to how much time we need to do the various types of photos that we usually do at your wedding:

  • Getting Ready: At least 30-45 minutes with both the girls and the guys, but the more the better!
  • Bride + Bridesmaids: 30 minutes (before the ceremony is recommended)
  • Groom + Groomsmen: 30 minutes (before the ceremony is recommended)
  • Bride + Groom: 45 minutes-or-so. If you do a “First Look,” that usually takes about 10 minutes and we usually recommend scheduling about 15 minutes right before sunset for the best light.
  • Entire Wedding Party: 20-30 minutes
  • Immediate Family: This is based on how many groups you want to do. We usually recommend about 2 minutes per small group (2-8 people) and about 5 minutes per large group (8+ people).
  • Extended Family: We usually recommend keeping family formals to immediate family and then doing less “formal” photos with extended family members as you see them during reception. But, if you would like to include extended family in the formals, then use the same timing calculations as for immediate family.
  • Ceremony Prep Time: 15-30 minutes. Don’t schedule any other photo sessions for the 15-30 minutes right before your ceremony so we can get set up, communicate with videographers about how we/they plan to shoot, etc.

If you graciously allow us these amounts of time for each aspect of your wedding day, we will be sure to give you some seriously gorgeous images!
